Patagonia's autumn colors
Patagonia's temperate deciduous forests add splashes of warm tones to the landscape during the austral autumn. The Landsat 9 satellite captured an image of reddish hillsides in the Magallanes region of southern Chile on April 12, 2026.
The deciduous varieties of southern beech trees, such as the lenga beech, display yellows and reds when shorter, colder days set in. These trees are highly adaptable and can thrive in a range of climates.
The image shows the colorful autumn display of lenga and other southern beech forests in Patagonia's iconic locales, including ConguillΓo National Park, Torres del Paine, and Tierra del Fuego.
