Curiosity rover reaches Martian ridge, begins new exploration phase.
NASA's Curiosity rover has successfully climbed an 11-meter ramp, reaching the top of a Martian ridge, marking the beginning of a new phase in its exploration. The rover is now set to investigate the boxwork region, focusing on the composition and navigation of these geological features. Using its ChemCam and Mastcam, Curiosity is capturing mosaics of distant ridges and closer views of areas like 'El Corral,' 'Chapare,' and 'Meson.' The rover is also examining nearby nodular bedrock, with instruments such as ChemCam's LIBS laser targeting 'Altamora,' and MAHLI and APXS analyzing 'Nocarane.'
In addition to geological studies, environmental monitoring continues with instruments like REMS, RAD, and DAN. The mission plan also includes a suprahorizon cloud movie and a 360-degree dust-devil survey, contributing to the understanding of Mars' atmosphere and surface conditions.
These activities are part of Curiosity's ongoing mission to explore and study the Martian surface, providing valuable insights into the planet's history and environment.
