Comet 3I/ATLAS

NASA's open data on Comet 3I/ATLAS will power future discoveries. The comet, discovered by the ATLAS survey telescope in July 2025, is the third identified object to visit our solar system from interstellar space.

More than a dozen NASA science missions have observed the comet, including the Hubble Space Telescope, TESS, MAVEN, James Webb Space Telescope, and SPHEREx. The data collected will help scientists better understand the comet's composition and structure.

The comet's observations have already revealed differences in its water, carbon dioxide, and carbon monoxide production rates compared to typical comets. NASA's commitment to open science makes it easier for researchers to work with data from different sources.
