NASA's OWWL project seeks volunteers in Bakersfield, CA, to host ozone sensors and pilots to carry them on flights.
NASA's Ozone Where We Live (OWWL) project is calling for volunteers in Bakersfield, CA, to host ozone sensors in their yards. These sensors, resembling large lunch boxes, measure temperature, humidity, and gases like methane and carbon monoxide, alongside ozone levels. The initiative aims to tackle air pollution in the San Joaquin Valley, known for its poor air quality.
Pilots flying over the region are also encouraged to participate by carrying sensors on their flights. This data will be combined with information from NASAβs TEMPO satellite to enhance air quality models. The project seeks to improve understanding of ozone distribution, which is crucial as ground-level ozone is a harmful pollutant.
For more information, visit the OWWL project page or contact Emma Yates at [email protected].
